About Sai Ngam Hot Spring

Sai Ngam is the quieter, more natural of Pai's hot springs — a warm mineral pool set in the forest, popular with locals and cheaper than the developed Tha Pai springs inside the national park. Bring a swimsuit, towel and cash.

It sits south of Pai, the same direction as the canyon, so a stay on the south side puts both within a short ride.

The closest stays to the spring

Paddy Fields Haven is the closest — rice-field bungalows and homestays on the south side, run by a local family. Eden Villa is a private two-bedroom garden villa a short ride away, and 365 Vila Connect is a BBQ garden villa nearer to town.

Sai Ngam vs Tha Pai: pick your soak

Both springs sit south of Pai on the same road, about 7–10 km from town. Tha Pai is the developed one inside the national park — terraced mineral pools, changing rooms, and the boiling source where locals boil eggs in bamboo baskets. Entry is a national-park fee, roughly 300 baht for foreign adults.

Sai Ngam is the local favourite: a warm mineral pool deeper in the forest, smaller and far calmer, with only a small fee or donation and basic facilities. The water is warm rather than hot, and you're surrounded by trees instead of concrete.

They're close enough to visit both in one afternoon — Tha Pai for the full experience, Sai Ngam for the quiet soak. From a south-side stay you're already pointed in the right direction.

When to go and what to bring

The cool season (November to February) is the best time — warm mineral water plus crisp mountain air. Go before 10 am or after 4 pm to miss the midday day-trippers; early morning soaks, with mist over the forest, are the highlight of staying close by.

Bring a swimsuit, towel and cash — cards aren't accepted, and Sai Ngam's facilities are basic. Add insect repellent for the forest at dusk, and a bottle of water: hot soaks dehydrate you faster than you'd expect.

Tha Pai is open roughly 8 am to 6 pm; Sai Ngam is informal and best in daylight. In the rainy season both are open and wonderfully quiet.

Combine it with the canyon

The springs share the south side of the valley with Pai Canyon, Mo Paeng waterfall and the Bamboo Bridge, so the classic move is a half-day loop: a soak in the late afternoon, then the canyon for sunset — about 10 minutes apart by scooter.

That's the real case for staying south: from Paddy Fields Haven or Eden Villa the whole circuit runs from your door. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll map it for your dates.
