Where to Stay Near the Pai Bamboo Bridge (Boon Ko Ku So)

In short

The Bamboo Bridge (Boon Ko Ku So) sits about 9–10 km southwest of Pai, past Pam Bok waterfall — roughly 20–30 minutes by scooter. Our closest stays are the rice-field properties on the south side of town: Paddy Fields Haven and Camp View Mountain, with 365 Vila Connect a few minutes further toward the centre. The bridge through the rice fields

Boon Ko Ku So — the Pai Bamboo Bridge — is an 800-metre wooden and bamboo walkway that winds across rice paddies to a small Buddhist temple, built so the monks could cross the fields without trampling the crop. It's one of the most peaceful walks in the valley: no traffic, no crowds pressing behind you, just the creak of bamboo and the fields stretching to the hills.

There's a small entry fee — around 30 baht — paid at the start, plus a café perched over the paddies and fish to feed along the way. Allow about an hour to walk out to the temple and back at a slow pace, longer if you stop for a drink over the fields.

The fields are at their most photogenic in the green season, roughly July to November, when the rice glows emerald; before harvest they turn gold. In the dry months the paddies are brown stubble — still a lovely walk, just not the postcard.

Sleeping in rice fields of your own

Here's the honest pitch: if the bamboo bridge is on your list, you probably love rice fields — and two of our stays sit in one. Paddy Fields Haven is a cluster of bungalows and homestays in the paddies on the south side of Pai, run by a local family, and Camp View Mountain is right beside it with tents and a sala facing the mountains.

Both are on the correct side of town for the bridge, so you skip riding through the centre. 365 Vila Connect — a private garden villa with BBQ and parking — sits closer to town but still points the same direction.

The ride out and what to expect

From the south-side stays you follow the road toward Pam Bok — the bridge is past the waterfall in a quiet valley, about 20–30 minutes from town in total, less from our rice-field stays. The final stretch is a narrower local road with a few steep, winding sections, so take it slow and ride in daylight.

One practical tip: navigation apps sometimes point to the bridge itself and make you miss the turn — set your map to the bamboo bridge parking area instead and you'll arrive at the entrance.

If you'd rather not ride, a songthaew taxi can run you out and wait; agree the return fare before you set off, as there's no passing transport at the bridge.

Pair it with the Pam Bok valley

The bamboo bridge shares its road with two other stops: Pam Bok waterfall, a jungle-gorge cascade a short way back toward town, and the Land Split, a farmer's roadside stop where a donation gets you roselle juice and snacks. Together they make a perfect unhurried half-day.

The classic order from a south-side stay: Land Split first for juice, Pam Bok to cool off, then the bamboo bridge in the softer late-afternoon light — and you're still back in time to ride into town for the night market.

It's exactly the kind of day that makes the south side the better base for Pai's countryside — everything on this loop starts from your door.
